Over One Year

I've been a US resident for over one year already.
I actually started this post on my one year anniversary here, but didn't have time to finish it.

Sorry for being so quiet lately.

But here is what I wanted to write... a little recap of my first year.

I still remember how nervous I was when the airplane landed in Atlanta and I stood in line for immigration. What if I forgot something, or something goes wrong, I thought.
But I had no problems and was welcomed by a friendly officer.
It was a good first day.
Josh picked me up at the airport and had flowers waiting for me at home.
I was so happy that I didn't have to worry about leaving again.

The first few month just flew by with all the traveling, weddings, tragic and sad death of Aaron, visits from Germany, finding my first job...

By July of last year, I had been to the Keys, to Las Vegas, on a cruise to Mexico, I had attended two weddings and and one "funeral", and I had a job. It was very eventful, like a roller-coaster ride.
August was a little calmer and I think that's when I first started to realize that I'm here for good.

For our first anniversary we went to Orlando, and Halloween Horror Nights.

In November, we visited Josh's mom in Nebraska and spend a few days with her in Chicago.

For Christmas my best friend came to visit me on her way back from Hawaii to Germany. We spend an amazing three weeks together, filled with fun and food!

In February I trained for my first mud run. That was  a lot of fun, challenging but fun and I would do it again.

For St. Patrick's day we went to Savannah, what an adventure! Totally worth it!

In April, Daniela, my friend from Germany, visited us, and we went on a little vacation to the west coast of Florida.

Then, in May I started my new job.

And that was my first year - a short version of it...

Yes, I miss my family and friends. Some days even a lot... - that part isn't easy but I'm very happy here. And Josh is happy to have me here too.

Now I have a full-time job at a great company and I enjoy my job. Next weeks it will be three month at my job! Yeah :)

Other than that, life has been busy but great. Working full-time takes up quite a lot of time (duh...), so there is not much time left besides working out in the morning, cooking dinners, cleaning and spending time with Josh in the evening.
Our weekends are sometimes busy, sometimes we just hang out and relax... This weekend Josh actually had to work today, and I went to the library to study (not very successful today). We'll be going out for dinner tonight.

Oh, yeah, we are (pesci-)vegetarians at the moment... we're testing it for four weeks, and this is almost the end of week two, and I have to say, I don't really miss meat... at all. Just the thought of bacon makes me want to eat meat... but I don't have any real cravings for meat of any kind.

It started because we watched this documentary 'forks over knifes'; it is a movie about two doctors who claim that most degenerative diseases are caused by eating meat and other animal products, and can be stopped or even reversed when we start eating a plant-based diet. The diet, they are taking about is vegan, but I'm surely not ready to give up eggs and cheese. So we decided to try vegetarian (but we still  eat fish and seafood) for four weeks and see how we like it.

I think, we as humans need to reduce our meat-intake, but I'm not convinced yet. I think we should eat more plants, and more unprocessed foods. I think the key to a healthier life is to eliminate processed food out of our diets as much as possible. With all the additives that are added, the chemicals, high fructose corn syrup, and all that other crazy stuff, it's not that surprising that we get sick all the time.

So, we try to buy organic when we can, or eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, and make our own hummus, guacamole, and soups instead of buying the canned ones from the store.

Just try to be aware of what you put into your body, because your food is your fuel, and you wouldn't just put water, oil or other things in your car's gas tank, so why should you fuel yourself with food, that isn't good for you?

Yes, of course it is ok to splurge sometimes. Josh and I ordered pizza last night, because we love pizza, but to be honest, we felt pretty bad after eating too much of it... and I don't think we are doing that again very soon.

Anyway, I hope you have a great weekend! :)
