Finally I am finding some time to write. It is Thursday already, so I lived in my new home for about three days. It feels so good to finally be here, it is hard to describe the feeling!
I left Germany on Monday, May 14th in the early morning. My parents brought me to the airport.
But they weren't the only one.
Chris and Edith, my running partner, came to the airport to say goodbye as well. It was a nice surprise to see them and spend the last hour in Germany with them and my parents.
Saying goodbye never is easy. Tears were flowing and hugs and kisses given.... and then I had to go through the security check by myself.
The plane from Stuttgart to Atlanta was very full, but I was still exhausted from the previous few days and got some rest on the plane.

At the border control in Atlanta the officer welcomed me to my new life and home! It made me smile. He was very nice, friendly and helpful. It was a perfect welcome to my new home.
The flight from Atlanta to Jacksonville is only about 50 minutes, but it seemed to take forever! I couldn't concentrate on my book and there's hardly any time to turn on the iPod to listen to some music because as soon as you're high enough you have to turn it off again because you're descending into the Jacksonville area. Well, maybe you have about 15 minutes... The flight to Jacksonville never seemed that long before!
When we landed I couldn't get off the airplane fast enough to see Josh again. He came with a bouquet of white roses to pick me up. Aren't they beautiful?(I did not have time to actually take a picture of Josh with the roses at the airport...)
I was so happy to see him and he was smiling too! Finally home!
But, of course, my baggage didn't arrive with me in Jacksonville! In all those years I've been traveling, my bags where always there, never were late or lost. It had to happen at some point; it is just funny that it happened on my "last" trip to Florida from Germany...
It wasn't so bad though, they didn't loose my bags. My layover in Atlanta was pretty short, so after getting my bags through customs there just wasn't enough time to get them on my plane to Jax. But they brought them later that night to our apartment.
I already unpacked all my bags, went to the DMV to get my driver's license, got a bank account, met friends for dinner, went to my gym. So I've been pretty productive the past two days. And I'm enjoying my life here in my new home Jacksonville, Florida!
It is raining quite a lot lately but I promise to post some pretty pictures soon of my new home and surroundings here in Jax.
Endlich habe ich Zeit zum Schreiben!
Jetzt ist es schon Donnerstag und ich wohne schon seit drei Tagen in meinem neuen zu Hause. Es fühlt sich so gut an, endlich hier angekommen zu sein, das Gefühl lässt sich gar nicht in Worte fassen.
Am Montag bin ich morgens von Stuttgart aus weggeflogen. Meine Eltern haben mich gemeinsam zum Flughafen gebracht (siehe Foto 1). Außerdem haben mich zwei Freunde aus Tübingen, Chris und Edith, mit der ich immer zusammen laufen war, auch noch am Flughafen überrascht um sich noch mal von mir zu verabschieden (Foto 2). Es war echt schön meine letzte Stunde in Deutschland mit ihnen verbringen zu können.
Naja, Abschied ist ja nie leicht, es sind Tränen geflossen und wir haben uns viele Male umarmt. Aber dann musste ich alleine durch den Sicherheitscheck um rechtzeitig zum Boarding zu Kommen.
Der erste Flug ging nach Atlanta. Dort angekommen begrüßte mich der Beamte beim Grenzübergang mit einem freundlichen: "Willkommen in deinem neuen Leben!"Das war wirklich eine schöne Begrüßung.
Der Flug von Atlanta nach Jacksonville dauert zwar nur 50 Minuten, aber es kam mir vor wie eine Ewigkeit. Ich bin diese Strecke schon so oft geflogen, aber noch nie kam es mir so lange vor. Ich konnte mich auch überhaupt nicht auf mein Buch konzentrieren und zum iPod einschalten bleibt einem kaum Zeit, den sobald das Flugzeug die notwendige Höhe erreicht hat, setzt man schon fast wieder zum Landeanflug an.
Als wir endlich in Jax gelandet sind, konnte ich es kaum erwarten aus dem Flugzeug zu kommen! Zum Glück hatte ich einen Platz am Gang und relativ weit vorne.
Josh hat mich mit einem Strauß weißer Rosen abgeholt (Foto 3). Nur habe ich überhaupt nicht daran gedacht auch ein Foto von ihm mit den Rosen zu machen...
Ich war einfach so unendlich happy ihn zu sehen und er sah auch ziemlich glücklich aus! Endlich zu Hause!
Natürlich kam mein Gepäck diesmal nicht mit mir in Jax an. All die Jahre bin ich nun immer wieder zwischen Deutschland und Florida hin und her geflogen, und noch nie wurde mein Gepäck verloren oder kam zu spät, aber es gibt für alles ein erstes Mal! So schlimm war es aber nicht, denn da ich nur einen kurzen Aufenthalt in Atlanta hatte, haben es meine Koffer einfach nicht auf den Flug nach Jacksonville geschafft, waren aber schon mit dem nächsten Flugzeug unterwegs. Die Koffer wurden dann auch noch am Abend zu uns nach Hause gebracht.
Inzwischen habe ich schon alles ausgepackt und fast alles einsortiert. Ich war schon bei den verschiedenen Ämtern um mein Florida-Führerschein und meine aktuelle Social Security-Card zu bekommen. Ich habe schon ein Bankkonto eröffnet, mich mit Freunden getroffen und ich war schon bei meinem Fitnessstudio! Alles in allem, war ich schon relativ produktiv die letzten Tage! Und ich genieße mein Leben hier in meinem neuen zu Hause in Jacksonville, Florida!
Zur Zeit regnet es noch etwas viel, aber ich verspreche bald schöne Fotos von meinem neuen zu Hause zu posten.
