Cruise Part II - Zweiter Teil der karibischen Kreuzfahrt

This time you didn't have to wait as long for my next post :-)

Back to the cruise:
On day four we docked in Cozumel Mexico. Dani, Josh and I had booked a shore excursion to the Mayan Ruins of Tulum. We got off our ship, and got on a smaller one, because Cozumel is an island off the coast of Mexico and the ruins are on the mainland.
Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

After arriving on the Mainland our tour guide Angel took us to our bus. On the one hour car ride he told us about Mayan culture, history and Mexican culture and history. Angel was very knowledgeable and the ride went by quick.

Once we got to the parking lot by the ruins it started sprinkling a little, but it was so hot, that we welcomed the rain. We marched up to Tulum in the light rain and enjoyed the beautiful nature.

To get into the site we had to enter through a pretty tiny gateway. Josh really had to squeeze through there.

It looked pretty funny and I just had to take a picture.

Sometimes it's a good thing to be small, I guess!

Oh, do you like my outfit? Well... it looks a little ridiculous with the sneakers, but we new we had to walk and climb a bit and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Plus it was really hot and humid out there.

BUT it was so worth it!

I always enjoy historical sites. To see something that people have build about 1000 years ago! I think it is just amazing. And remember, they did not have all the technology we have now.

The ruins are really beautiful and fascinating!

The sites are very well preserved.

Plus, you can find tons of iguanas laying and walking around everywhere!

As I said, they are everywhere...

How many can you find in all the pictures in this post?

Here's Angel, our tour guide, telling us more about the Mayan culture and temples.

The upside down figure you see on the building in the picture below stands for fertility.

The Ruins are right by the sea, and he explained that the Mayans believed a bath at this beach would be cleansing. After he showed us different buildings and sites, we had some time to explore on our own.

We walked around some more, up a cliff and the view from up there is just breathtaking.

We also took a quick dip in the sea, and it was wonderful. The water wasn't as clear as in Grand Cayman, but it felt great!

We did have to get back to our ship though, so after a quick break at the beach we got back on the bus to continue our cruise.

We had one more full day at sea before arriving in Tampa on Saturday morning. We enjoyed it by relaxing by the pool some more, playing a game of cards, reading, and of course, eating some more of the amazing food!

By writing this post, I just relived our cruise. It was really amazing. It makes me realize how much I love traveling and exploring different parts of this world! Now I can't wait for our next trip!

P.S.: Scroll down through the German post for more pictures (of iguanas) :-)

Judith
