Yesterday I spent a day in Frankfurt am Main. The morning was spent on the train and in a doctor's office. I had a medical examination for my visa. They checked my vaccination records. - Oh, yeah, after going to my doctor on Tuesday, I had to get a vaccination. Somehow we missed my second shot for measles and mumps. - So at the medical exam everything was fine, nothing exciting happened... There were quite a few people there for the same medical. I'm not the only one planning on moving to a different continent!
Anyway, the medical part was mostly boring, quite a lot of waiting; good thing I brought a book with me. I'm finally reading The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. I've had the books for years but never got around to it.
After the medical I had lunch. That's when the fun part began :-)
I started a diet last week Saturday. So yesterday was my day 6. My friend Simone started it about four weeks ago and is seeing great results already. She got me started on it. (Check out her blog: http://aprilscherz84.blogspot.de/) But the diet requires a blog post of its own.
Back to Frankfurt and my lunch. I had a yummy salad with filet of beef and a tomato soup at Vapiano.
Then I headed out to see a bit of the city. I've been to Frankfurt quite a few times when my older sister and her family lived there, but often we didn't do much sight seeing. We did go into the city but I hardly ever took any "touristy" pictures. This time I did:
This is at "Alte Oper". It wasn't the prettiest day but I still like the pictures.
I don't have a great camera, just a point and shoot (Nikon Coolpix). One day, I want to get a new one, but first things first.

Those trees are in full bloom and looked so beautiful! I took quite a few pictures there but I would have needed a ladder or something. I'm too small, sometimes.
I asked somebody to take a picture of me. If you travel alone, that's always a bit tricky. This is surely not the best picture of me but I really liked the trees.

Later on I went to the MMK - Museum of Modern Art. I can't show you any pictures I took inside. But if you are in Frankfurt soon and have some time to spare, the MMK is (almost) always worth a trip.
Right now they are exhibiting "Warhole: Headlines". It mostly shows pieces by Warhol in which he used the newspaper in some way. It's quite interesting, especially if you know that he used to work as a graphic designer, mostly for ads in newspapers. He was always fascinated by the news. It was his starting point for his regular and art career and he came back to it in the end as well.
Yesterday night was the opening night for "Making History". I was there too early, but got a sneak peak on some parts of the new exhibition as well. I might have to go back to see the rest because it looked intriguing.
When I was done with the museum, I went to the Main river. The sun had come out and it was pretty bright. I stopped at an H&M to buy some sunglasses - I can't just go to Frankfurt and not even go into a store! But I was a good girl and didn't buy anything else, and I really needed sunglasses because I had left all of mine in Florida.

The next one is so cute because Oma means grandma. I just imagine this old couple who hung up this lock for their love! Cheesy I know, but so romantic!

Und jetzt geht es, wie gewohnt, weiter auf Deutsch:
Gestern war ich für einen Tag in Frankfurt.
Vormittags war ich bei dem Medical, dass ich für mein Visum brauche. Das war relativ unspektakulär. Ich musste mich am Dienstag ja doch noch mal impfen lassen - Masern und Mumps. Irgendwie habe ich wohl die zweite Impfung als Kind verpasst. Ich war etwas überrascht, dass so viele die gleiche Untersuchung für ein Visum gebraucht haben. Ich bin also nicht die Einzige, die demnächst auswandert.
Wie gesagt, der Teil beim Arzt war eher langweilig und mit viel Warterei verbunden. Zum Glück hatte ich mir was zum Lesen mitgenommen; The Catcher in the Rye von J. D. Salinger.
Nach dem Arzt hab ich beim Vapiano zu Mittag gegessen. Einen leckeren Salat und eine Tomatensuppe. Ich mache nämlich seit fast einer Woche eine Diät. Ja, ich :-) Aber das verdient einen eigenen Blogpost, an dem ich schon arbeite. Simone, meine beste Freundin, hat mich angesteckt. Sie macht es jetzt seit vier Wochen und das sehr erfolgreich! Die Fotos poste ich jetzt nicht noch mal im deutschen Part, sonst wird das viel zu lang. Aber die Bilder sprechen ja auch für sich.
Ich habe meinen Tag in Frankfurt genossen. Erst war ich bei der Alten Oper, danach bin ich zum MMK - Museum für Moderne Kunst - und hab mir dort die Ausstellung über Andy Warhol angesehen. Die fand ich sehr interessant (ja, interessant ist eines meiner Lieblingswörter ;-). Also, ein Ausflug zum MMK lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.
Zum Schluss habe ich noch einen Abstecher zum Main gemacht. Die Sonne hat sich immer wieder zwischen den Wolken gezeigt und dann zieht es mich immer zum Wasser.
Eigentlich wollte ich ja nichts einkaufen, ich habe es dann aber doch nicht an den vielen Geschäften vorbei geschafft, ohne in eins reinzugehen... Aber ich habe es geschafft "nur" eine Sonnenbrille (siehe letztes Foto von mir, passend zum Blog in lila!) zu kaufen, die ich auch dringend gebraucht habe!
Falls du dich jetzt fragst, was es mit den ganzen Schlössern auf der Brücke auf sich hat: Es sind Liebesschlösser, die von Verliebten dort angebracht werden um ihre Liebe zu besiegeln.
Nach dem Abstecher zum Main bin ich über den Römer zurück zum Bahnhof und hab mich auf den Heimweg gemacht.
